The Hop Shop
What a weekend. Broke out the tandem bike, watched/played a shocking amount of footy, made 2 trips to the Erica, finally made it to karaoke, and caught a 6/10 sunset on the beach in beautiful Frankston. The food was terrible, but the company was not, with guest judges Heather and Katelyn joining us.
Service wasn’t great: messed-up drinks, a weirdly strict ID policy, and gross water. The food and drinks didn’t make up for it. They were out of a bunch of ingredients, Heather’s drink was undrinkable, and the food that arrived was average at best.
Meg has lost restaurant-picking privileges for the next two outings. We’ll leave her with sunset spot recs. Also, karaoke stage presence needs some more practice.

Spicy as hell! Think they may have put some peppers in this one. Meg was super brave.
Yeah, just alright mate. Technically they were supposed to be al pastor - they were not. Probably a slightly worse version of when I make tacos al pastor. Not a good sign.
Don’t think I heard her complain. Great positivity from Heather. Great support for Meg after she ruined everything.
Tasted less like fish than the last fish taco we tried. Let’s go - almost looked like Meg enjoyed it for half a second. Wow, adventurous, brave Meg.
Not bad. Pretty sure they just refried a fish stick, but the sauce was alright. Again, reminds me of shitty homemade Mexican food.
Yeah no yeah.
Thought this was going to be the best taco of the night initially, but it was somehow too much meat. They really need to season their meat.
Not spicy because they weren’t seasoned. Meg likes this. Think she just likes chicken?
Again, why did they not put seasoning on the chicken? Tasted like boiled chicken on an average-at-best tortilla.
Cheese.
Don’t know how to feel about these. It wasn’t even the thing we wanted to order, but they tasted alright. Kind of a funky offering.
Chucking up a guess here: sorry girl.
Likes mozzarella sticks a lot. Unusual batter. Needed another layer of coating to hold everything together.
The worst corn Heather has ever had.
The worst corn Katelyn has ever had.
Meg
A crime against margaritas. Completely unethical, but pretty good. Should have stolen the glass.
Jack
Average margarita, but somehow the bright spot of the night. Jack did not bring his ID, which was perfect because they had the strictest ID policy in all of Frankston - will bring a passport next time. Only got it because they messed up someone’s order and just gave us the extra.
Heather
Bartender missed Negroni day at bartending school. Shocking. Possibly the worst attempt at a drink I have seen in my entire time in Australia.
Katelyn
Good flavour, but dry. How do you make dry mushrooms? They’re like 90% water. The guacamole that was supposed to come with it was missing - that could have helped.
The spice was on the rim, not in the drink. Paying extra for just the rim felt a bit much. Katelyn is a bit picky, as we have established in her love life.
